Incus.

Time, fees, field records and a client portal, for a practice of one.

Built for architects, design advisors, and expert witnesses working on their own. Track your hours, watch your fees, record what you saw on site, and give clients a page that shows progress without showing your margin.

Who it's for

One practice, three kinds of work

Most people working on their own do more than one thing. Incus knows the difference, so each project is set up, billed and recorded the way that kind of work runs.

Architecture

From schematic design to construction

Phases with fixed fees or hourly rates, field reports from your site visits, and agreements drawn from your own templates.

Design advisory

Flexible by design

Advice billed as you go, with a defined piece of work at a fixed price when the scope calls for one.

Expert witness

Built for the deposition

Hourly work for counsel, inspections recorded the way they get cross-examined, and a report laid out the way the disclosure rules ask.

What it does

Everything between the site and the invoice

Not an all-in-one, and nothing you will spend a weekend setting up. The handful of things a one-person practice does every week, in one place that knows how they connect.

Time, the way you bill it

A weekly timesheet with a real place for the narrative, in the increments you bill. Entered an hour against the wrong phase? Move it.

Fees you can see coming

Every phase carries its fee: fixed, hourly or capped. Your rate card applies itself, minimums included, and you see a phase running hot before it is gone.

Statements that back the invoice

Hours, expenses and fixed-fee progress laid out for the client, ready to send with your invoice. Mileage at the federal rate for the day you drove.

Agreements from your own words

Draft engagement letters and terms from your own templates, send them, and keep the signed copy with the project.

Site visits on the record

Field reports with photographs, conditions and the instruments you used, shared with your client when you decide they are ready.

A page for the client

What is done, what is next and what you need from them, with the documents you choose to share. Never your hours, your rate or your margin.

Expert witness

Records that hold up under oath

On a litigation matter, the questions come in a known order: when were you there, what were the conditions, what did you measure it with, did you follow your own procedure. Incus asks them first.

How it looks

Color tells you where a fee stands

Blacksmiths read hot steel by its color. Incus does the same with your fees. A phase starts pale and deepens as it fills up. Go past the contract amount and it turns orange.

How it's built

Small, careful, and yours

Your records stay yours

Each practice's records are kept apart by the database itself, not by a filter someone could forget. Back it all up, and restore it, whenever you like.

Set up in an afternoon

Templates for each kind of work give a new project its phases, fees and checklist in one step. Change them to suit how you actually work.

Made in practice

Built by a working architect for a one-person practice, and used on real projects every day before anyone else is asked to.

The name

What is an incus

An anvil doesn't do the work. It holds still, so everything else can be shaped on it.

Incus is Latin for anvil. An anvil doesn't swing, doesn't cut, and never gets hot. It is the one thing in the shop you can count on not to move.

That is the job here. Incus doesn't do your design, your advice, or your testimony. It is the surface the rest of it gets built on.

It is also the name of a small bone in your ear that carries every sound you hear. Small thing, whole practice.
